If you can only have one tool for your beach rockhounding and beach combing, this is it. The sand dipper is the most practical and affordable item you can bring with you.

In addition to an obvious use for scooping up items, it has several other uses, including keeping you safe from the environment and wildlife.

Hazlewolke Metal Detector

The metal detector is a very affordable and fun item every family member can use. While it will not help you find rocks, it can be a great tool to find metal objects like coins or lost jewelry.

In fact, this is THE BEAST of beachcombing because it can find any type of metal, including gold and silver.

Also, if you are dead-set on funding only expensive stuff, you can set it up for specific metals and skip finding the bottle caps. It even has a "Jewelry Mode."

The best part is that the metal detector is cheap and reliable. In fact, it is so cheap you might just collect enough change on the beach that the metal detector will pay for itself. Eventually.

Carbon Fiber Trekking Poles

Carbon Fiber Trekking Poles is a great addition to your kit for hikes (beachcombing and rockhounding related or not!).

This is a handy item for someone like me with a knee injury. While I can walk on a flat surface with no problem, as soon as there is some elevation, my old injury surfaces.

Trekking poles are also helpful for people with artificial hips, knee replacement, and similar procedures.

However, even if you have no physical limitations, trekking poles can still be helpful for extended hikes.

They decrease the pressure on your lower body and save you from back, hip, knee, or foot pain the day after.

My favorite part is that these poles are collapsible and weigh only 7.6 oz (215 grams) each! You can use it for the walk, fold it, and put it away.

Trekking poles also serve as safety equipment! When you walk on or around the rocks, you can use poles for balance and traction.

And if you are unlucky enough to be caught by a sneaker wave when you are near the coast, ram poles into the surface to resist the water pulling you.

Earth Pak Waterproof Dry Bag

When you are on the coast, a large dry bag keeps your clothes, phones, and cameras dry.
It is not only useful if an unexpected wave catches you (be careful!). If you cross beach creeks or collect rocks near the water, it saves your gear if you trip and fall.

I prefer the 30-liter version because it is small enough to fit in a backpack, but it can also function as a stand-alone backpack with shoulder straps.

This is a great addition for any outdoor adventure near water (it floats!) or where heavy rain is expected. The best part is that this is a very affordable and well-built piece of gear.
