Richardson Rock Ranch

Located 50 miles away from Bend, Richardson's Rock Ranch has been known among rock lovers since 1975. This family-owned business operates as a working cattle ranch but is best known for its several thunderegg beds.

World-famous thundereggs from the ranch’s extensive deposits display remarkable variation in size, color, mineral growth, and inclusions.

The highly prized Priday Plume agates and thundereggs are known for their transparent matrix and striking inclusions—moss and plume patterns in brilliant red, yellow, and green tones.

Most thundereggs contain agate cores with colorful banding or waterlines.

Some beds also produce jasper and opal thundereggs. Occasionally, hollow geodes lined with crystals can be found.

Currently, the ranch doesn't offer public digging, but freshly dug thundereggs from Priday Moss, Pony Butte, Opal, and other beds are available for purchase.

The rock shop and showroom have an exceptional selection of geological treasures from Oregon and around the world.

Rockhound hobbyists will find rough and polished rocks, fossils, petrified wood, jewelry, and other products made from semi-precious stones.

Typically, the store is open year-round, but hours are subject to change. Check it before you go.
